This Week's Message from God's Word:
Real Rejoicing and Pursuing Maturity in Christ

Colossians 2:5–15

Milt Reynolds

Why do we get up in the morning? What motivates us daily to care for ourselves, those we love, and those we meet? What is the primary incentive for work, recreation, invention and worship?

One profound human desire, common to all of us, is the desire to feel joy. Whether in work or worship, care or commitment, most of what we do and plan for is based upon a desire to feel a sense of well-being, of success and of value. In other words, we all desire to feel joy.

As we continue our study of Paul's letter to the Christians in Colossae (the Book of Colossians) we clearly see that pursuing maturity in Christ is a goal that promises great joy for Paul. This great joy comes not only from a solid hope of learning and loving Jesus in heaven, forever without death and shame...but Paul experienced great joy immediately, in the moment of life on earth now, even in the midst of great struggle. In fact, the joy of knowing Christ now and forever enabled Paul to persevere through tremendous trouble.

Paul exerted great effort to lead others into this same joy. The importance placed by Paul upon pursuing maturity in Christ shows how important it should be for us all.

Join us this Sunday for a message of joy, and a warning to beware of something that has the potential of robbing and ruining your joy...and your life: "plausible arguments".
