We are a gospel-centered community on mission to love God, to love each other, and to love our city.

John 2:13-22

The Passover holy day was near, and Jesus was in Jerusalem. In the temple he found consumers: people buying and selling, exchanging money, trading property and wanting more.

In the mind and heart of Jesus the temple was not a building...it was not a marketplace...it was not a place at all. The temple, for Jesus, represented the house of his Father. More, it represented his own body: the dwelling place of God.

In this season of Lent we all are called to pursue after Jesus, to open our hearts and minds to the Holy Spirit, allowing our Father in Heaven to convict us, to correct us, to counsel us, to encourage us. Some may choose to fast during this season, giving up for a few weeks some thing we may enjoy, in order to focus our attention for Some One, Who is much greater...Some One Who is much more desirable: God.

As we look at this account of Jesus at the temple, let's ask ourselves these questions:

What did Jesus do?
What did Jesus say?
Why did Jesus do this?

At our gathering on Sundays, are we consumers?

What is in the temple of our bodies does Jesus want cleared out?
